DAX TABLE: Exploring the Aesthetic Rules of the Stock Market

An Innovative Integration of Mathematics and Design

The DAX Table, designed by DarlieLau, is a unique piece of furniture that combines the abstract world of stock market data with the principles of design. Through the use of three-dimensional images and mathematical concepts, this table offers a fresh perspective on the relationship between art and finance.

Darlie Lau Studio embarked on a creative journey to transform the DAX stock index into a tangible form. By utilizing a 3D computer program, they were able to create a three-dimensional database that seamlessly integrated German design elements, both classic and contemporary. The focus was on substantive form and material selection, resulting in a table that is not only visually striking but also conceptually rich.

One of the standout features of the DAX Table is its lattice structure, which is formed by the ups and downs of the stock market data points. This unique design element not only creates a visually captivating surface but also allows for the refraction of light, adding an extra layer of beauty to the industrial production.

The realization of the DAX Table involved the use of advanced technologies such as CNC milling, sand casting, and 3D printing. These techniques ensured the precise execution of the intricate design, resulting in a lightweight table with dimensions of 95 x 95 x 160 cm.

Creating a product that seamlessly integrates complex stock market data into a simple and aesthetic design was no easy feat. Darlie Lau Studio faced the challenge of transforming messy and complicated data into a visually appealing and functional piece of furniture. Additionally, they had to balance the needs of existing and historical design elements with contemporary techniques and production methods.

The DAX Table project spanned from September 2013 to June 2014, with Darlie Lau Studio working between Hong Kong and Berlin. The extensive research and development process involved the creation of a three-dimensional database and the integration of German design elements. The result is a table that not only serves as a functional piece of furniture but also sparks new associations between stock market information and people.

The DAX Table has received recognition for its innovative design. In 2015, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The DAX Table's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world.

With its unique blend of mathematics, design, and technology, the DAX Table offers a fresh perspective on the relationship between art and finance. It serves as a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in transforming complex data into visually captivating and functional products.
